The Burning Mountains

Abstract painting by Vinn Wong

Nature-themed visualization for relaxation

Take a few deep breaths and allow each part of your body to relax.

Imagine you have gone on a long drive to camp and immerse yourself in nature, far from other people.

In the last little town you passed through, an elder had given you directions to a hidden spot to pitch your tent with a clear view of the mountains to the east. The spot would be well-worth the walk to get to it, they promised.

“Especially on this night,” you were told, mysteriously.

And here you are, tent set up, small fire burning. The woods you walked through behind you and a perfect, unobstructed view of the mountains in front of you.

As the darkness deepens you watch the fire slowly die down before you put it out completely. Now it is just you and the mountains.

Your eyes drift closed as the moonless sky turns pitch black, the stars obscured by a thick blanket of clouds. You take deep breaths, imagining that you are inhaling the comforting darkness and the essence of the forest.

“Open your eyes,” the night whispers.

You do and then quickly sit up.

The entire mountain range is aglow in front of you. Beautiful, shimmering lights, intense but soft, rise almost like steam from the peaks. Gold, violet, orange, and blue, they sway back and forth as if being gently blown by a breeze. Shadows dance across the surrounding terrain as the mountains burn without burning.

Stay with this image as long as you like.
