The Sun ~ Contemplation Thoughts

Week 33 Contemplation Thoughts

“The Sun’s colour is actually white when viewed from space or when it is high in the sky… Despite its typical whiteness, most people mentally picture the Sun as yellow; the reasons for this are the subject of debate.” ~~Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun#Sunlight)

  • When I was teaching English in South Korea, whenever the children would draw a picture of the Sun, the would colour it orange. Some of the other teachers and I that were from North America wondered why they were choosing the “wrong” colour and not using yellow. I never questioned my belief that yellow was the “right” colour
  • The Sun is so fundamental to our existence, but even this we do not all perceive in the same way
  • Some people talk about reciprocity or that there must always be a fair exchange in the Universe. Is that true? What would be the exchange between our planet and the Sun? The Sun showers this planet with energy, what does it receive in return? People have created many poems, songs, and myths about it, I suppose
  • Another idea makes more sense to me. The idea of each being doing its thing the best it can, and as a byproduct other beings benefit. The spirituality teacher that said this used bees as an example. Bees collect nectar and pollen from plants without though of helping the plant in return, but as they move from flower to flower they pollinate them
  • Or maybe both of the above ideas are true, but the fair exchange is happening without the direct knowledge of some of the players. It is still happening with the bees and flowers even though the bees are unaware of the essential role they play in keeping the species of plants they depend on alive
  • Maybe I have too limited an idea of what an exchange would be. I was thinking of it as a business transaction between two parties. You give me X and I’ll give you Y. I suppose that’s how we tend to think about it in our money-based economic structure. But maybe something a little more open. I do X, which makes me happy/sustains me, you do Y, which makes you happy/sustains you, and we will all benefit
  • A benefits B, B benefits C, C benefits D, D benefits A. There’s no direct relation between C and A or B and D, but they are helping each other
  • The bees collect nectar and pollen and as a side effect they pollinate the plants. These plants are homes and food to a variety of other creature. Humans like to look at the pretty colours, and we plant flowers in our gardens. Bees aren’t trying to create homes for other insects or make human gardens prettier, but that’s what’s happening on a higher level beyond their awareness
  • So what might the higher-level exchange be between the Earth and the Sun that I am unaware of?
  • The Sun is an example of abundance. Its size (109 times bigger than Earth and accounting for more than 98% of the mass of our entire solar system) and the amount of energy it emits for billions of years are just two characteristics that are awesome to think about. Add to that the fact that the Sun is nowhere close to being one of the larger stars in the universe or that there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on our entire planet, and it is all truly mind boggling
  • There are no shadows on the Sun. It is a Source of Light
  • I like to think that stars are entry points where raw Source Energy pours into our Universe
  • Where does energy pour into us? Our hearts? Our chakras?
