Does It Unravel Or Expand?

This morning, I was looking at a belief that I wanted to let go of, and I was struck by a wee bit of panic. “But what if this belief is actually true and the thing I want to believe is just a pipe dream?” This was not the first time this had happened. My analytical mind stepped in and tried to reason things out, but panic doesn’t listen to reason.

Eventually the panic subsided, but it did leave me with an interesting question. How do we discern between beliefs and ideas that truly serve us and those that don’t? Limiting beliefs are skilled at presenting themselves as totally reasonable and/or the only option, after all.

The answer that came floating up in my awareness was, “Does it unravel?”

I can simply sit with the belief I’m trying to let go of and hold it gently in my awareness. This is contemplation, and it does not involve the conscious mind. You sit with the object of focus and simply allow your awareness to observe it without analysis or judgement.

In my experience, one of two things happens when I contemplate an idea. If it’s an idea that serves me or something that has Truth to it, it will expand and I will realize more and more aspects of it. If it is a limiting belief or an idea that holds no Truth, it will begin to unravel and dissolve. It cannot hold itself together as the energy of my awareness flows over it.

Where focus goes energy flows.
