Justification ~ Contemplation Thoughts

Week 48 Contemplation Thoughts So Far

  • Why do we even feel the need to justify and defend ourselves? Is it just a question of conditioning? Or maybe a reflection of our mostly outward focused thoughts
  • Justification is rooted in external focus. Wanting to prove things to others.
  • Can I make inner guidance and impulses, gut feelings, reason enough for me?
  • I’m guilty of constantly looking for or asking for justification. “Why would she do that?”
  • Looking for justification is hunting for reason. I feel that if I can understand the reason for someone’s actions I can predict future ones
  • Justification keeps us tied to the past
  • Asking for justification is also used as a means of control. If people know they will have to explain/defend themselves they may think twice about straying outside of accepted norms
