Shallow Roots

Someone told me something very interesting about watering grass too much this week.

Now, I don’t know if this information is true or not and I don’t know much about grass myself, but it made sense and struck a chord with me.

The person told me watering new grass too often is actually not good for it in the long run. Frequent watering means that the grass will only grow shallow roots. There will be no reason for the roots to spread out and grow deep into the earth because water is always easily available at the surface. You would then have to continue to water your lawn fairly frequently.

I found this really interesting. The early, well-intentioned help then makes the grass dependent as it doesn’t spread its own roots and learn to look for water in every direction.

This made me think about myself, and people in general. About keeping my mind open, spreading my roots, and learning to look for opportunities and resources all around me and not just obvious, “surface-level” ones. It made me think about building my own inner resiliency and looking to nature and the Universe, and not just one or two particular humans, for nourishment.
