Sandbag

Visualization for releasing the feeling of stuckness

You open your eyes and see yourself sitting in a rowboat in the middle of a river. The water is crystal clear and you are able to see all the way down to the bottom. Along both sides of the river soft, blue-grey grass is bending in the wind. You look above and see a beautiful blue moon hanging in the grey sky.

You return your attention to your boat and the river and quickly realize that you are not floating downstream effortlessly with the current. Your boat is tilted far to the right and you are circling the same spot in the river clockwise over and over again. When your boat is pointed upstream there is far more turbulence and disruption in your boat, but as you do the downstream portion of your circle things are smoother. Regardless of these alternating times of disruption and quiet, you remain in the same location with no downstream progress being made.

You look over the right side of your boat and see a soft grey cable dangling from the side down into the water. At the other end of the cable you see that there is a large sandbag resting firmly at the bottom of the river, keeping you in this spot.

You place your hands on the cable and ask in the quiet of your mind what situation in your life appears to be stuck and unchanging. You wait for the the answer and when it comes to you you also feel the emotion associated with it.

You sit with the feeling of frustration, worry, hopelessness, impatience, powerlessness, or whatever it may be and allow the energy to express itself without trying to push it aside. Looking down at the heavy sandbag, you see grains of sand that are the colour that you associate with this feeling seeping out of the sandbag and settling on the riverbed where they are then whisked away by the strong current.

When you feel lighter, you take your hands off the soft grey cable. Now you ask yourself how you would like this situation to feel. The first time you attempt this, you find it difficult to feel anything other than the way you have been feeling, so you place your hands on the cable once more and allow the feeling to flow through you again. More sand pours out of the sandbag.

Once again, when you are feeling lighter still, you take your hands off the cable and ask yourself how you would like this situation to feel instead. This time you find you are able to start to feel the desired emotion.

You ask yourself which two colours represent the feeling that you would like to have with this situation. You look down at your hands and visualize two orbs of light, one for each colour, in either hand. You take these two orbs of light and hold them at the end of the cable that is attached to the boat. You watch as the soft grey of the cable changes to match the colour of the two orbs. These two colours travel all the way down the cable and seep into the sandbag. More sand, whose colour does not match the frequency of these two new colors, leaks out of the sandbags.

Your sandbag grows lighter and lighter as the desired feeling grows stronger and stronger within you until eventually it no longer has the mass to anchor you to this point in the river. Your boat which was tilted far to the right gradually rights itself and you find yourself floating downstream with the current.
