Frozen Frames

An exercise for contemplating time

Look around you in whatever setting you find yourself in. Now close your eyes, and visualize yourself in that exact same moment right before you closed your eyes but with all motion stopped. Curtains blowing in the wind, people walking, water falling from the sky, absolutely everything frozen in place.

Now, open your eyes again and look around. What has changed? Watch the scene around you, and then close your eyes again. Visualize the moment your eyes captured right before you closed them. Imagine yourself looking around inside this frozen frame.

Open your eyes for a third time and final time. Look around you. Can you shift your perception so that you see the action around you as a succession of frozen moments flashing by one after the other so fast that they create the illusion of motion?
