If time is an illusion, as some say, then what is the role of continuity within that illusion?
I suppose the two main things that continuity gives us is a sense of change and a before and after
Continuity, one moment following another, is what allows for the idea of change. If we were aware of all moments at once, aware of the seed, the seedling and the willow tree simultaneously, then there would be no change. Just eternal moments
Without continuity our reality would resemble our dream state. We would be 60 and then 13 years old in the next moment. Before and after as we know it would hold no meaning
I think we can hold too strongly to continuity, take it to far, and end up resisting or believing ourselves unable to change, thinking that a past circumstance must or will continue
Continuity is much more relaxed in our dreams. Changes are instantaneous, time is more fluid
