The Past ~ Contemplation Thoughts

2020 Week 37 Contemplation Thoughts

  • What value does the past hold in our present?
  • We can’t be constantly looking back at days gone by, but are we to ignore it completely? That does not sit right with me, but I need to examine why
  • I do tend to run to the past to find answers to help me in the present. I suppose it’s something, but I know that even if someone did X nine previous times that is no guarantee they won’t do Y this time
  • Does looking at past events give me a false sense of security in the present?
  • Looking at the past, however, can help us see patterns, which, left unchanged, can continue to manifest in our present. If they are unchanged
  • But we also don’t want to give the past too much weight and start believing that it sets the bounds for our present. I’ve been guilty of this
  • Guilt, blame, regret tie us to the past. They drag elements of our past that we don’t like into our present
  • One of my biggest fears is of making a mistake that changes/limits my future. I’m afraid of being bound by a past action/inaction. This is a big reason why I worry about and am so critical of my mistakes in the present. I see them as future restrictions
