The Curtain

Nature-themed visualization for relaxation

Imagine yourself walking through a forest at night. This is something that you probably would not have done just five short weeks ago, but this two-month solo vacation which is nearing its end has been a catalyst for change at a deep level of your being. Exactly what you had hoped for.

You have been staying in a little town far from the beaten track for over a week. Your original plan had been to move on after a couple of days, but the wonderful locals and feeling of home made you toss that plan out the window.

You continue to make your way along the small path which seems in no hurry to get to its destination as it curls and winds around the large trees. It is clear that not one bush was removed in order for this path to be.

You hear your destination long before you can see it. You’re on your way to a waterfall that the locals simply call The Curtain. It is not a place that they are quick to tell any tourists that do happen by about, not wanting their small town to be overrun with sightseers, but by your third day there, people had started telling you about it, almost as if they had held a town meeting and decided that you were worthy of their secret. Every one of these people had told you about the beauty and serenity of this place, their eyes filled with wonder and joy, and then promptly begged you not to go there. At least, not before the night of the full moon.

“Everyone should see this place for the first time under the light of a full moon”, each one had told you.

And so you had waited. The old you would have balked at trudging through an unfamiliar, dense forest at night, but the new you had clipped a bright flashlight on to your hat, thrown your trusty water bottle into your backpack, and left your room, one of two cozy spare rooms above the bakery that served as the town’s only “inn”.

Your steps quicken as you sense that you are nearing the end of the path. With the bright light of the full moon and your flashlight you can see clearly, so you feel confident picking up the pace.

Finally, you round the last few trees and come to a stop at the edge of the water. Stretching in front of you to the left you see the waterfall that so many lovingly described to you. They are framed above and on each side by beautiful trees and at their feet is a large pool of water. The sight takes your breath away, but the real magic happens when you turn off your flashlight, your eyes adjust to the night, and you finally look up at the star-filled sky that you couldn’t see until now because of the thick foliage and your attention to the path at your feet. Cool spray from the falls soon dampens your face, but this is welcome on a humid night like tonight.

The old you would’ve taken dozens of photos and posted them to your social media with geotags and all. But the new you simply finds a nice rock to sit on, leans back against a sturdy tree, and soaks in the night.

Stay with this image as long as you like.
