Virtual Reality Eyes?

A concept that you hear with metaphysics (and “regular” physics now too, actually) is that time and space are illusions. I admit, I have an easier time getting my head around the idea that time doesn’t exist, but space is a very difficult one for me to let go of. I can see the separation. That tree is over there and I am over here.

So, I was trying to think of an analogy to help myself. Something for me to compare this idea to. The first analogy I had was that our eyes were like 3-D glasses, but that didn’t seem to quite fit. Then I hit on the idea that maybe our eyes are like virtual reality glasses.

People put these glasses on their face and the screen is right there, right in front of their eyes, on their body, but the image is projected to make it look as if they’re in a 3-D world. They can think they’re crossing a bridge over a canyon, that a dinosaur is lumbering towards them, that they are walking through a busy market in Morocco, or anything really. And this technology is so convincing that you’ll see people who know perfectly well that they’re just sitting on a chair start to wave their arms around or start to try to dodge objects that are flying towards their face.

So many different spiritual belief systems hold that this physical reality is an illusion which is projected from a non-physical or spiritual or energetic reality. Maybe our physical eyes are the number one tool in helping us to buy in to the realness of this reality while we’re here, the same way that people wearing virtual reality glasses start reacting to what is projected through the glasses as if it’s real.
